Refinitiv 2019 Annual Mid-Market & Small-Cap Overview
The Refinitiv 2019 Global Mid-Market (US$50m-$500m) and Small-Cap (up to $50m) M&A Annual Review is out with the a similar picture of deal activity being suppressed across both markets.
Highlights of the the Small-Cap market:
– Worldwide small-cap deals reached $174.7b, a reduction of 6% from prior year and the slowest period since 2016.
– Cross-border deals fell 7% from prior year with the slowest period since 2015.
– the Technology sector led the way with $34.5b of closed transactions, a drop of 4% on prior year, and accounted for 20% of all deal activity.
– Industrials and Real Estate sectors comprise the next two largest sectors, totaling $21.5b and $19.3b respectively. – Europe has a mixed picture, with the UK, Germany, France and Spain all showing reduced deal volume (only Italy had an increase), however, despite this trend deal values in France and Spain still managed to grow with only the UK and Germany showing a negative performance.
